What is gottron Papule?
Gottron papules refer to a violaceous hue located at the dorsal-lateral interphalangeal (IP) and/or metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints. When fully formed, these papules become slightly depressed at the center, showing a white atrophic appearance. Associated telangiectasia can be present.
What is a Gotron?
Gottron papules are flat-topped, erythematous to violaceous papules and plaques found over bony prominences, particularly the metacarpophalangeal joints, the proximal interphalangeal joints, and/or the distal interphalangeal joints.
What do Gottron’s papules feel like?
Sometimes the rash—which causes an itchy or burning sensation and worsens when exposed to sunlight—extends onto the skin in between the joints. In many instances, these reddish/violet bumps and patches also have a subtle overlying scale.

What are the characteristics of Gottron syndrome later in life?
Characteristics that develop later in life may include premature senility, endocrine disturbances and cataracts. Gottron syndrome may either be inherited in an autosomal dominant or autosomal recessive pattern. Approximately 50 patients have been reported in medical literature.
