What are the advantages of Micropulse laser trabeculoplasty (MLT)? Micropulse laser is a gentler form of laser treatment. It uses a laser energy wave that has been divided into tiny pulses of laser instead of a longer continuous wave of laser. Previous lasers use a continuous wave of laser energy.
What is MLT and SLT?
The greatest difference between ALT, SLT, and MLT is the amount of time that laser energy is applied to the trabecular meshwork. In ALT, the pulse duration is usually 0.1 seconds versus 3 nanoseconds in SLT. For MLT, the typical pulse duration is 0.2 seconds divided into 100-microsecond pulses at a duty cycle of 15%.
What kind of laser is an SLT?
In SLT, the laser is a frequency-doubled (532-nm) Q-switched Nd:YAG laser (Selecta 7000, Coherent Medical Group, Santa Clara, CA). The laser settings are fixed except for the power. Spot size is 400-microns and pulse duration is 3 ns. The large spot size results in low fluences (mJ/cm2).
