WARNING : While the possibility of a black bear sighting is fairly uncommon, black bears are seen every year at Lopez Lake. You are in black bear county, and there are no bear boxes/ food lockers at Lopez Lake.

Lopez Lake was built in 1969 as a domestic water source for the Five Cities area. It is one of the few domestic reservoirs in the area that allows swimming.
Does Lopez Lake have leeches?
Some of the shore areas had a few leech issues because of the warm weather and super low water level. We just swam out in the middle of the lake from our canoe. It was so refreshing! We enjoyed the exercise out on the water.

One of two campgrounds on the O’Neill Forebay, San Luis Creek has 53 sites that offer water and electric hook-ups. Some of the sites border the shoreline. The campground has very little shade and is in an open area susceptible to wind. No flush toilets or showers are available.
Is there a dump station at San Luis Reservoir?
A new 5 mile accessible walking trail follows the O’Neill Forebay shoreline and connects the campground to the North Beach day-use area. A dump station is available for registered campers. All boats must be removed from the water by sunset. Reservations can be made year round.
